Joining a dental clinic in Cusco lets you discover another care setting and meet the people who work there every day. The project is for advanced dental students and qualified professionals, contributing their preparation while supporting dentists and hygienists.
Help may include welcoming patients, preparing and cleaning materials, oral-hygiene education and support with the facility’s routine. Agree a role around your training, experience, stay length and current needs. Learning procedures, listening to staff and asking for guidance are part of practical work, alongside observing appointments, patient relationships and how the clinic is organised.
Your host family and the centre’s activities offer another perspective on the city. Share breakfast and dinner, meet fellow participants and discover the calendar, with free salsa, cooking and Tandem when scheduled. Free time also leaves room to explore Cusco and arrange optional outings nearby.
🏡 In Cusco, stay with a selected Peruvian family in a shared room with one to three other participants of the same gender and a similar age. Shared meals offer time to discover local food and habits and talk about your day. The house is part of getting to know Peru as well as a place to rest after activities.
Breakfast and dinner are included every day, including weekends. Drinking water, sheets, blankets, a pillow and towel are provided. Lunch is separate, and you can choose where to eat around your shift. Share allergies or dietary needs before departure so the team can arrange your stay with the family.
You receive a key for outings, while respecting house routines and letting the family know when you will miss a meal. Wi-Fi depends on the assigned home. Internet and a computer area are available at the programme centre. Host homes are generally 10–25 minutes on foot or by bus from orientation; the journey to your project depends on the placement. A representative shows you the route on your first day. Daily transport and laundry cost extra.
Discuss a private room or extra nights with HeyLocals before arranging your trip. Availability and the supplement are confirmed in your booking.
🛡️ HeyLocals helps you prepare before departure. Locally, you have programme contacts and a 24/7 local emergency contact. Save instructions and contacts offline.
You must be at least 18 and provide evidence of advanced dental studies or a professional qualification. Bring scrubs, protective equipment and closed shoes, following the project’s clothing and hygiene guidance.
Skills, experience, stay length and the facility’s needs determine your involvement. The clinic’s professionals guide work and patient decisions. Ask before using tools or starting an unfamiliar activity, and respect confidentiality, consent and local procedures.
Cusco is around 3,400 metres above sea level. Speak to your doctor about preparing for travel and arrange insurance covering your stay and planned clinical activities. Share relevant needs and report illness or difficulties promptly to the coordinator.
Follow local transport advice, use reliable services and keep documents and valuables safe. Give yourself time to settle into the city and its pace during the first days.
🧭 Orientation is a chance to ask questions, learn about the programme and get comfortable in Cusco. Receive guidance on culture, safety, accommodation and transport, plus useful and emergency contacts.
At arrival, discover activities at the centre, changing each week. Salsa, cooking and Tandem—conversation exchanges with local people—are free opportunities when offered on the local calendar. Tours and excursions are optional and separate from the fee.
Your first project visit is accompanied. A representative shows you the route and introduces how the facility works. Staff explain the spaces, rules and tasks for your placement.
Tell the team about your experience and what you would like to learn. These conversations help you find your role in the centre’s routine.
✈️ Your arrival airport is Alejandro Velasco Astete in Cusco. Pickup on arrival is included. The team arranges your meeting and transfer to the accommodation around your travel details. International flights and domestic connections, for example from Lima, are separate from the fee.
A standard stay begins on Sunday before the Monday programme start and ends on Saturday of your final week. Confirm dates and arrangements with HeyLocals before buying tickets. Then send your date, time, airline and flight number.
After collecting your bags, go to the meeting point in your personal arrival instructions. Keep the guidance and local contact number offline. If your flight changes or you cannot find the representative, contact the team before leaving the meeting point. If already in Cusco or arriving overland, agree where to meet in advance.
Standard checkout is by 11:00 on Saturday, with breakfast included. The return transfer is separate; the team can help arrange it. To stay before or after the programme, request extra nights. Availability, meals and the additional cost are agreed in your booking.

Choose a project and tell us when you’d like to travel. Applying is free, with no obligation to book.
After your application, we'll put you in touch with your dedicated coordinator. They'll walk you through everything and answer your questions.
When you're ready, pay the deposit to lock in your spot. You'll get everything you need: local contacts, a visa guide and your pre-trip pack.
Pack your bag and travel. On arrival you'll find other travellers like you, a welcoming local team, and a trip you'll be talking about for a while.
