Project details

Help college students practise the English they will use at work, and get to know the city through campus life.
In Ho Chi Minh, English can open doors for young people preparing to work in tourism and hospitality. Support teachers at a local college and help students aged around 16–25 practise through conversation, language games and everyday workplace scenarios.
Lessons last around 75 minutes and are prepared with fellow participants using the programme’s materials. Expect at least five hours of activities a day, plus preparation. You do not need a teaching qualification, but advanced English and basic knowledge of hospitality management are required.
Sharing lessons and life on campus is a chance to get to know Vietnamese students and develop your communication skills. Once your activities and preparation are finished, there is time for a café, a city walk or a relaxed evening together. Weekend trips are arranged and paid for separately.

🏡 Life on campus
For this standard programme, stay on the college campus in a shared dormitory for six to eight people. Facilities are simple: air conditioning, shared bathrooms and cold-water showers. Private rooms for one or two people are a separate option to confirm; a private bathroom is not automatically included.
Bed linen, Wi-Fi in common areas and a place to store valuables are available. Bring your own towels. Laundry is paid separately. The campus has a curfew: you cannot enter or leave between midnight and 06:00.
🍽️ Meals and time together
Three meals are included on weekdays and two at weekends, with Vietnamese food and drinking water. Tell the team about allergies and dietary needs before travel so arrangements can be checked. After activities, share a meal, prepare a lesson together or explore the city.
The programme offers access to the nearby hotel pool, except on Mondays, subject to availability and local rules. You need the required card and must follow the opening times and limits; ask the team how it works before visiting. Personal excursions, transport and food or drinks outside the programme are separate.
🛡️ Requirements and your role
You need advanced English and basic knowledge of hospitality management. A formal teaching qualification and previous classroom experience are not required. Initiative, patience and willingness to prepare lessons with others are important.
The standard minimum age is 18. Participants under 18 need prior approval and signed parental consent, while those over 65 need medical clearance. Complete the HeyLocals self-declaration in your personal area before departure. This is sufficient for our review of your declaration about criminal records; no separate police certificate or references are needed.
You support the local teachers and follow their guidance. Respect students’ privacy and obtain permission before taking photographs or sharing personal stories. Dress appropriately and follow the campus rules, including its overnight curfew.
Arrange insurance covering your planned activities and ask a qualified doctor or travel clinic for personal health advice. Read current official entry and travel guidance. You receive local contacts for questions and emergencies and can contact the HeyLocals team; support does not mean a guide accompanies your free time.
🧭 Your first Monday
Meet the team and fellow participants, learn the campus rules and get to know the neighbourhood. The introduction covers Vietnamese culture, useful words, a cooking activity and a group dinner at a local restaurant.
Before lessons begin, discuss your English level, hospitality knowledge and classroom ideas with the coordinators. Learn about the students, teaching materials and the role of the local teachers.
From Tuesday, follow the confirmed timetable. Lesson preparation and discussing activities with the team are part of your commitment. Ask for support whenever a task calls for skills you do not have. The introduction prepares you to work alongside teachers; it does not replace professional training.
✈️ Arriving in Ho Chi Minh
Fly to Tan Son Nhat International Airport (SGN). The regular pickup window is Saturday or Sunday, 06:00–21:30. Confirm your arrival with the team before booking; arriving on Saturday means paying for an extra night.
Share your flight details and keep the meeting instructions and support contacts available offline. The journey to the campus usually takes around 20 minutes, but traffic and waiting can make it longer. Your arrival guide confirms the arrangements for your flight.
Off-schedule transfers and independent arrivals need advance agreement. Give at least 24 hours’ notice if you plan to arrive on your own, and check any additional costs. If you are delayed or cannot find the coordinator, contact the team before arranging another journey.
The return airport transfer is separate. Confirm when to leave the accommodation, allow time for traffic and check-in, and agree any extra nights beforehand. You will receive the operational details in your departure information.
Advanced English and basic knowledge of hospitality management are required. You do not need a teaching qualification or previous classroom experience, but you should be comfortable preparing lessons and working with young adults.
Complete the HeyLocals self-declaration in your personal area before departure. The standard minimum age is 18; under-18 participation needs prior approval and parental consent, while participants over 65 need medical clearance.
